The best way to shave your vagina?

Im about to have sex for the first time with myboyfriend, I'm 21. But eveytime I shave my vagina, I get ingrown hairs, irritation, little red bumbs. How could I make my vagina pretty without having those effects, I dont want him to go down there and it look all nasty. Please help me!!
